We welcome today’s announcement that the UK will bring further sanctions against entities and individuals enabling settler violence in the West Bank.

The new measures are a step in the right direction, but remain wholly insufficient to address Israel’s accelerating annexation of the unlawfully occupied territory.

The government must act now to target the illegal settlement project in its entirety, not just select entities and individuals.

This should include a complete ban on all trade with settlements, as the Liberal Democrats have been urging for years, and a commitment to financial penalties for UK businesses that bid for tenders relating to settlement construction.

The government must also end all military cooperation with Israel as the IDF continues to wreak havoc in Gaza, Lebanon and Syria while enabling and even participating in settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank.
