On 20th May, Liberal Democrat parliamentarians were briefed on Israel’s widespread and systematic use of administrative detention against Palestinians and abuse and ill-treatment of Palestinians in its custody.
The session brought together legal and human rights experts to examine the situation of Palestinian administrative detainees, with a particular focus on child and medical detainees as well as the international legal framework relating to arbitrary detention.
Speakers included Dr James Smith, an emergency doctor who has repeatedly served in Gaza, Dania Abul Haj, Senior Legal Officer at the International Centre of Justice for Palestinians, and representatives from Save the Children UK.
The session was hosted by Susan Murray MP.
