Layla Moran: Great Israeli Real Estate Event a “stain” on Britain

Speaking to Al Jazeera on 14 June, Lib Dem MP Layla Moran condemned the government’s failure to intervene to stop the Great Israeli Real Estate event:

“Settlements are illegal under international law. The Government have said time and time again that UK businesses should not be trading with settlements. They have sanctioned pro-settler extremists in the Israeli government. And yet they have allowed this event to go ahead.

“It’s worth remembering that this event is recognised as being coordinated with a bank that actively funds the building of settlements, and we know from American versions of this event that it will involve the sale of stolen Palestinian land.

“It is a stain on the British public, and on the international rule of law, that this event has been allowed to go ahead today.”

Layla urged the government to take concrete action to prevent further UK complicity in Israel’s illegal settlement project, including by banning UK businesses from trading with the settlements.
