Calum Miller writes to Foreign Secretary demanding action on E1 settlement construction

On 28 May, Liberal Democrat Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Calum Miller wrote to Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper calling for urgent action to address Israel’s advancing E1 settlement project, which would sever East Jerusalem from the rest of the West Bank, making the territorial continuity necessary for a future Palestinian state virtually impossible.

With tenders for E1 construction contracts having been issued this month, the letter calls for a package of sanctions, including fines, for any UK firms that bid for tenders relating to settlement construction in the E1 area or elsewhere in Palestine. It also reiterates the Liberal Democrats’ longstanding call for a ban on all trade in goods and services with Israel’s illegal settlements.
