At the London Liberal Democrats Regional Conference on 11 October 2025, LDFP hosted a panel discussion featuring Palestinian Councillor Sam Ammar and LDFP Executive Member Imad Ahmed.
Sam shared her father’s personal experience of ethnic cleansing during the 1948 Nakba and reflected on how speaking out on Palestine led to her marginalisation within Labour’s candidate selection process, prompting her to leave the party and later join the Liberal Democrats. She urged members to actively support and encourage pro-Palestine candidates in local elections.
Imad highlighted the Liberal Democrats’ long-standing support for Palestinian rights – from calling for the recognition of Palestine in 2017 and a ban on trade with illegal Israeli settlements in 2021 to supporting an immediate ceasefire, a full arms embargo, and sanctions in far-right Israeli ministers in 2024. He also outlined areas in which the party could go further, including by actively opposing the conflation of peaceful protest with antisemitism and by supporting calls for boycotts, divestment and sanctions against Israel.
The discussion was led by Anne-Marie Simpson, Chair of LDFP.
